The Academic Council of FuseNet (ACF), the body that advises the FuseNet Executive Board on matters of scientific and education quality, had its first constitutive meeting on January 28th, in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The ACF is a permanent advisary body and is composed at present of six university professors:

New Fusion Technology textbook in preparation

A new top quality master-level textbook on fusion technology is being written in a collaboration involving several FuseNet partners.

NNV Plasma Physics Symposium celebrates 25th Anniversary

At March 5 and 6, 2013, the Symposium on Plasma Physics and Radiation Technology had its 25th anniversary in Lunteren, the Netherlands. One of the keynote speeches was on the ITER Diagnostics, given by Dr. Michael Walsh.

Second edition of GOMTRAIC announced

The second edition of GOMTRAIC, a remote plasma physics course oriented on experimental tokamak physics and control, is now open to subscription by students.

Eindhoven University launched Fusion Master programme

Eindhoven University of Technology offers since September 2012 a dedicated 2 years Master of Science programme ‘Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion’. Students can apply for this interdisciplinary MSc programme until May 1st.

FuseNet General Assembly approves workplan for post FP7 period.

On February 5-6, 2013, the General Assembly of the FuseNet Association convened at Sofia University, reviewing the achievements made in the FuseNet FP7 project and discussing a strategic work plan to continue supporting and coordinating European fusion education in the period thereafter.

Student-built Fusor produces first neutrons

The first neutrons were measured last month in a new fusor device, built at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Students have taken an active role in the design and construction of this fusor, that was built with support of FuseNet.

The EFDA roadmap: Fusion Electricity to the European grid by 2050!

EFDA has released a roadmap that aims to bring fusion electricity to the grid by 2050. The outcome of the ITER reactor plays a central role in the quest to complete the 8 missions that are defined and need to be achieved to make commercial reactor application possible in the second half of this century.

Let me start by wishing you all a happy and healthy 2013. May it bring large numbers of excellent and highly motivated students to our fusion education programmes! In 2013 we shall close the FuseNet FP7 project, whereas we expect to expand the activities of the Association to become the central organization in support of fusion education.

FuseNet discusses education needs at SOFT 2012

In one of the sattelite meetings of the SOFT conference, FuseNet held a round table discussion with industry representatives on the changing needs in fusion education, and how to bridge the gap between research and industry.
