This position is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of divertor physics research, together with experts in the field. You will play a key role in a large, multi-national team to advance our knowledge of how alternative divertor magnetic geometries in tokamaks can improve the exhaust power handling in future fusion reactors.

Your principal role will be to establish an integrated approach to data analysis from a range of plasma diagnostics, including the development of synthetic diagnostics to compare experimental outputs with modelled predictions. A PhD in Plasma Physics or equivalent  experience studying plasmas is essential.  You will be familiar with, and have experience of, developing advanced data analysis techniques (e.g. Bayesian approaches) capable of working with very large datasets to produce meaningful comparisons between model predictions of experimental signals, and the experimental signals.

As part of the role you will be expected to work closely with local scientists who operate the diagnostics that provide the information needed, other members of the grant research team (Post-docs and academics) as well as PhD students. Together with them you will help develop experimental plans aimed at acquiring the best variations in tokamak conditions to extract the information needed on the effect of magnetic configuration.
