PlasmaSurf 2017

Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear, a research unit of Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon hosts the PlasmaSurf summer school from July 2-8.

PlasmaSurf is a summer school on plasma physics, intense lasers and nuclear fusion, taylored for BSc/MSc engineering and physics students. It is a good oportunity to gain insight into these topics in the view of a future career, or to complement your curricular training by broadening your knowledge in physics.

One of the main goals of the course is to promote a lively interaction between the students and lecturers during the breaks, visits and lunchtime. In addition to lectures and laboratory visits there will be plenty of outdoor activities - including surfing!

Programme
The PlasmaSurf summer school can grant you 1.5 ECTS.

Topics treated during this summer school are:

  • Introduction to Plasma Physics
  • Magnetic and inertial Nuclear Fusion
  • High power and ultrashort Lasers
  • Large international experiments involving Plasma Science

A visit to the ISTTOK tokamak and the Laboratory for Intense Lasers is foreseen as part of the main activities.

Fee & Application 
The application deadline is May 15, 2017. Accomodation costs (hotel and breakfast & lunch) will be covered by Instituto Superior Técnico. No funds are available for travel expenses.
