Student makes table-top directional neutron source

Ben Bartlett is a 17-year-old from Lexington, South Carolina and he has made a $2800 table-top D-D fusion device that guides the neutrons in a particular direction. The directionality could be useful for creating high-flux neutron beams, but to prove that that his device really works, though, the budding scientist will need to make some quantitative measurements. Nevertheless, it is already quite an achievement to build this tabletop fusion device and it already earned him a trip to Pittsburgh, where Ben has a chance to take home one of the top awards later this week at the world’s largest precollege science fair.
