Japanese Stellarator: Large Helical Device

The Large Helical Device is a currently running fusion research device in Japan. Since the start of operation in 1998, it is still the world's largest stellarator to date.

The first photo shows an overview of the machine hall, with power supply, heating and diagnostics devices around the stellarator. The second photo shows an inside view of the vacuum plasma vessel and a close-up of the divertor target (helical divertor) is visible on photo three. The heating device of the neutral beam injector (NBI), which provides part of the plasma heating, is shown on the fourth photo. Finally, the fifth picture shows the experiment building in its beautiful environment.
