Plasma Heating and Current Drive Course

The Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development will host its 15th course of the International School of Fusion Reactor Technology. This course will be on Plasma Heating and Current Drive for ITER Operation and DEMO Needs in Erice, Italy. Many distinguished experts in both physics and technology of Plasma Heating and Current Drive in fusion plasmas will convene to teach and debate open issues of this challenging field of research. These lectures will devote a full day to each of the four principal systems:

  • Ion Cyclotron waves
  • Lower Hybrid waves
  • Electron Cyclotron waves
  • Neutral Beams

This event takes place from the 24th until the 31th of May, 2015 and will start of by introducing the basic physics processes of waves-plasma and beam-plasma interaction. It will highlight the progresses achieved by each system in experiments, modelling and technology and will show the status of art of their definition for ITER. Furthermore the foreseeable use of these systems on DEMO will be discussed and the last day of the school is open to debate the constraints and specifications that a burning plasma will put on the systems.

Target Public
Due to the high level of expertise of the lectures and the high variety of topics presented, this school is a must for the young scientists approaching the field, but will also be very interesting for senior scientists already working in the field.

Registration & Payment
Attending the workshop comes at a cost of €800, which includes lodging, meals, social events and transportation from and to the airport. Master and PhD students that want to participate can find opportunities for funding at http://www.fusenet.eu/funds.
