Kornee Kleijwegt - MSc thesis at ASDEX Upgrade

Supported by FuseNet, Kornee Kleijwegt went to IPP in Garching for his graduation project. The title of his thesis: validation and implementation of a real-time sawtooth crash detector for ASDEX - Upgrade.

Neil Lamas - internship at IPP COMPASS tokamak

Supported by FuseNet, Neil Lamas went on an internship to IPP's COMPASS tokamak in Prague. He simulated resonant magnetic perturbations, which are used to mitigate the effects of runaway electrons and localised modes in tokamaks.

Tijs Wijkamp - internship at DIII-D San Diego

Supported by FuseNet, Tijs Wijkamp went on an internship to the DIII-D National Fusion Facility in San Diego. He did both modelling and experimental work on the Langmuir probes used in DIII-D, which need revising due to water leakages.

Tymofii Khvan - MSc thesis at SCK-CEN

Supported by FuseNet, Tymofii Khvan did his Master's thesis at the Belgium Nuclear Research Centre (SCK-CEN). He investigated the properties of tungsten wires to be used in fusion-plasma-facing components.

Yacopo Damizia - attendee Summer School St. Petersburg

Supported by FuseNet, Yacopo Damizia attended a Summer School in St. Petersburg on Plasma Physics and Controlled Nuclear Fusion.

Tokamak engineering in Budapest

Supported by FuseNet, Tom Todd, retired chief technologist of the UKAEA, went to Budapest to give a lecture series 'How to build a tokamak'.

Fusion PhD Event Registration Open Now!

The registration for the Fusion PhD Event at ITER, sponsored by FuseNet, is open now.

It is with great pleasure that the ITER Organisation will be hosting this year's Fusion PhD event at ITER Headquarters from 6 to 9 November 2018. The event, financed by FuseNet, provides a unique opportunity for PhD students to build bridges with other students working in the field of fusion science and engineering.

Interested participants should register here.

Sonia Gamba, master project at SPC, EPFL

Supported by FuseNet, Sonia Gamba went to the Swiss Plasma Center to work on a kinetic model for the Scrape-Off Layer of a plasma.

Save the date: PhD Event 6-9 November at ITER

This year, a PhD event will be held again. The host is ITER Headquarters, in cooperation with CEA.
