16th Fusion Reactor Technology Summer School

From the 28th of April to the 4th of May, 2017, the 16th edition of the International School of Fusion Reactor Technology (ISFRT16) will take place in the city of Erice on the island of Sicily, Italy. The summer school will be organised by the Ettore Majorana Foundation, in coorporation with CEA Caderache.

Topic

Most of the well-established diagnostic techniques which are currently being used on fusion devices, need to be reconsidered and modified before they can be applied to ITER or DEMO, because they will be exposed to higher temperatures, higher neutron fluxes and intense gamma radiation in those machines.

Therefore, the main topic of this year's event will be the development of diagnostics for ITER and DEMO. In order to do so, the course will cover basic plasma physics, magnetic confinement fusion (such as tokamak and stellerators) and inertial confinement fusion (such as NIF). Lectures will discuss recent developments in theory and experiments, but they also intend to give the basics of the field. Moreover, poster sessions are planned to allow participants to present their own work.

Registration

ISFRT16 is open in particular to students and researchers wishing to enter this new field. The registration-period has already been opened and will close on the 28th of February 2017. More information on the conference and the registration procedure is available on the website. Students who would like to participate in the ISFRT16 school can apply for funding support through the FuseNet support scheme for educaitonal events.
