PlasmaSurf 2018

PlasmaSurf is a summer school on plasma physics, intense lasers and nuclear fusion aimed for BSc and MSc engineering and physics students. It provides a great opportunity to get an insight on these topics with a view to a future career, or to complement your curricular training by broadening your knowledge in an exciting and forefront area of physics.

The lectures will be offered in self-contained modules, Monday through Friday and some practical lectures on remote laboratories, data analysis and computer science will also be included. Late afternoons are focused on joint/coaching activities.

The main topics to be addressed are:

  • Introduction to Plasma Physics
  • Magnetic and Inertial Nuclear Fusion
  • High power and ultrashort Lasers
  • Large international experiments involving Plasma Science

The summer school can grant 1,5 ECTS.

Some rooms will be available for free for some trainees to extend their stay. Priority will be given to those who apply for the training program. Request has to be submitted upon registration (14 May), mentioning the required departure date.

After the summer school, IPFN will provide a 2-weeks internship training program in Tokamak engineering and operation for 5 selected trainees. This internship will take place at ISTTOK premises in IST Alameda campus, Lisbon. Further information are available here.

Accomodation:

The accommodation cost (6 nights, from Sunday to the following Saturday) and working days breakfast & lunch will be covered by Instituto Superior Técnico.
