Plasma diagnostics in basic plasma physics devices and tokamaks: from principles to practice

The doctoral-level course on Plasma diagnostics in basic plasma physics devices and tokamaks: from principles to practice, organised by the EPFL's Swiss Plasma Centre and supported by FuseNet, provides the theoretical background on electrostatic probes, magnetic probes and fast imaging in plasmas. Each lesson will be followed by class exercise and experimental practica on both the TCV tokamak and the TORPEX basic plasma physics device.

The courses (this one and the Control and Operation of Tokamaks course) are open to EPFL students and also students from other Universities and Institutes, including FUSENET members. Students can subscribe to a single course and apply for FUSENET funding. The course programs are specifically designed to bridge the gap between theory and experimental practice. Each course grants 2 ECTS. The course on diagnostics benefits from the combination of a small basic plasma physics device, TORPEX, which allows for excellent diagnostic access and easiness of data interpretation, with the TCV tokamak, one of the three EUROFusion national facilities in Europe.
