Second edition of GOMTRAIC announced

The second edition of GOMTRAIC (GOleM TRaining Course) was announced and is now open to subscription by students.

GOMTRAIC is a remote plasma physics course, oriented on experimental tokamak physics and control.

As can be understood from the above sentence, the course can be taken remotely, but it nevertheless starts with a live kick-off meeting, held at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague.

Plasma can be seen in the chamber while Golem tokamak being operated remotely

During this kick-off week, students will get acquinted with the tokamak, exchange ideas, learn how basic operations work, do some first experiments, and get prepared for the following month, during which the students can operate the tokamak remotely and collect data, through on-line sessions of experiments. The results are then to be captured in a final report, or publication.

The GOMTRAIC is scheduled as follows:

  • April 8 - April 12, 2013: kick-off week in Prague
  • April 15 - May 10, 2013: remote experiments/participation, report writing
  • May 13 - May 17, 2013: report preparation and presentation.

GOMTRAIC is organized for undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in experimental tokamak physics, and combines the advantages of remote participation with the pleasure of an intense kick-off meeting held in Prague. FuseNet supports the event for European students, so there is no fee associated with this event and free accommodation provided during the kick-off week.

Deadline for application is April 6th, 2013.

Students are warmly welcome to apply, and find more info at:
