MAST anno 2012

MAST (Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak) is set up to evaluate the potential of spherical tokamaks, serve as a component test facility and to build a knowledge base for ITER. MAST is presently planning a major upgrade to significantly enhance its capabilities. This so-called MAST Upgrade is starting next year (2013) and will be carried out in two phases to reach completion in 2015. It will be able to test important new concepts relevant to ITER, such as the Super-X diverter and the effects of plasma shaping.
