We are sad to share the news that Prof. Jan Mlynar, (affectionately Honza) has passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023.

Jan was an enthusiastic supporter of FuseNet. He was a former member of the FuseNet Board of Governors and acted as the Board Secretary during his term. After his mandate, he continued to support and motivate his students to join FuseNet initiatives and at the 2022 PhD Event, he eagerly joined the students in having a PechaKucha presentation.

As the head of the fusion curriculum and the Fusion-EP master program at Czech Technical University (CTU), Jan was devoted to promoting fusion education. Among his many initiatives, he supported the development of the CTU PlasmaLab and recently published a book about fusion (The hottest dream under the sun - in Czech). Jan was a motivating figure for both students and colleagues.

Jan was a wonderful servant to FuseNet and tremendously supportive to me personally. I'm sure I speak on behalf of the whole of the FuseNet community when I say that he will be dearly missed. Roddy Vann, Chair of the FuseNet Board
