Plasma Physics Postdoc - detachment and edge physics

Aalto University in Helsinki is inviting applications for one PhD position and one post-doctoral position in the field of edge-plasma physics.

The postdoc position involves analysing experimental data from the JET and DIII-D tokamaks, and interpreting these data using existing plasma edge codes, such as SOLPS-ITER and EIRENE. The candidate is expected to participate in and lead experiments at JET and DIII-D, as well as provide diagnostic and edge simulation support for other ongoing experiments. The candidate is expected to publish peer-reviewed articles, as well as present results at external conferences. In addition, development and implementation of new physics tools in existing codes is strongly desired.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in physics or closely related field
  • Experience in at least one of these fields: plasma physics, spectroscopy, computational physics
  • Experience carrying out independent research
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English

In addition, experience with edge plasma physics, edge diagnostics spectroscopy, coding in Fortran or C, and more are highly desirable and given preference.
